There are many such games like Second Life and Minecraft, which adhere to the first four criteria of VR (believable, interactive, computer-created and explorable), but these are the fifth criteria which do not completely immerse you It does not follow it. There was a time when virtual reality was one of the hottest, fastest-growing technologies, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but becoming more popular with the World Wide Web, people have a little less attention towards it. Computer scientists have learned the method to create virtual worlds in the web even though (virtual reality markup language, VRML) but it could not be more popular. VR’s future web-based and collaborative with Facebook’s growing interest.
Mobile devices like Smartphone and tablets are just like ours in the supercomputer, because today’s smart devices have supercomputer-like computing power. If we use these smart devices properly then we can use it in many things. We also use Augmented Reality to enhance this virtual reality too. Now the matter arises, what is this augmented reality? In simple words, it is a type of virtual reality, where if we put our smart device in front of a landmark or striking building, then the inanimate object becomes automatic.
This means that Augmented Reality means that it connects our real world with the information of vast virtual world, which we collectively create in the web. These two worlds are not virtual only, but in both of these worlds we explore and navigate, we feel like virtual reality.
What Equipment do we use in Virtual Reality?
If you have ever seen a person using Virtual Reality then you must have seen how they used a lot of equipment. The difference between an simple computer experience and a VR experience is only the nature of its input and output. If you have computer then you know that its works on the equipment like keyboard, mouse, screen, and speech recognizer. This all have to combine together to work. Same this process are VR work, VR sensor can recognized you body movement to provide best reality.
Wherever a PC output is displayed on a screen, VR also uses two screens (for every eye), stereo and surround-sound speakers, along with haptic feedback (for touch and body perception). So let’s know about some input and output devices that are used in VR technology.
Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs)
The difference between VR and an ordinary computer screen is that: In VR, you can see a 3D image smoothly changing, in real-time, as you move your head. This is possible because the user has to wear a head-mounted display here, which looks like a big motorbike helmet. There are two small screens (for each eye), a blackout blindfold which blocks external lights (so that the user does not have any distractions from the real world), and also has stereo headphones.
These two screens display slightly different stereoscopic images, so that a realistic 3D perspective of virtual world is visible. HMDs have made the position sensors and this position sensor are work when you body or head move and fixed image according to this sensors.
Immersive rooms are used according to HMD alternatives. Here the user is placed inside a room where the images on the walls of that room are displayed; they always change from the outside. As you move in the room, the images will also change. Flight simulators primarily use this technique, where images of landscapes, cities, and airport approaches are projected in large screens outside the cockpit. It feels a different reality.
It is true that even if we have any reality, we always have the desire to touch things. In VR technology, we can also feel this thing through Dataglove. These datagloves are equipped with sensors, which have been wired in the outer side of the gloves so that they can easily detect these motions. Here fiber-optic cables are used which are stretched according to the length of the fingers. There are tiny cuts in each cable, just as you do your fingers back and forth, however, more and less light escape from these cuts.
The same happens at the end of a photocell cable, which measures the light of how much light it reaches them. From this the computer knows what the fingers are doing. They use second gloves strain gauges, piezoelectric sensors, or electromechanical devices (such as potentiometers) to measure finger movements.
A wand is even simpler than a dataglove, which is a stick that you can use to interact with touch, point to, or otherwise virtual world. There are position and motion sensors (such as accelerometers) in built in, it also has mouse-like buttons or scroll wheels.
